week 4 & 5

had serious computer/uploading problems. Here is week 4/5.
In week 4 (the colourful eyeball) I chose to respond to the stencil of a heart done in the previous week. I thought the use of body parts as a subject for a stencil was interesting and unusual, introducing a more abstract approach to stencil art as many are satirical and in some ways political. So I decided to do something a bit different. I also thought the flat diagram of the eye had some interesting shapes. If I was to improve this one I would probably use more realistic colours - these ones are a little bit random.

For week 5 (the face) I responded to the stencil of the girl with a tongue full of tentacles. I thought it was really quirky and cute so I decided to do one of a girl with an egg on her face. Technical errors got the better of me in this one as I cut out parts of the stencil incorrectly. I think this would look a lot better with more layers as I would have been able to include more detail in the facial features and give more definition to the egg. However, it wasn't a complete failure!

there were lots of super heros showing up on the board so i thought id do a stencil of a boy in a getaway car passing some trees... its a bit of a fail attempt. but if you squint your eyes you can kinda see it

stencil 4

there were lots of animals showing up on the board...and every zoo needs a giraffe ...so here it is

so this was in response to a speech bubble; because that's how I roll

week 5 Dan

Hey, it's Ash Ketchum! Ash is responding to the previous girl head, his head is exploding off of hers via a yellow gastric-type liquid.

Stencil 5 - Nick

In Grohl We Trust - This week I was responding to all the pop icons and superheros that have been coming up in the designs. I thought about who I would consider a modern day hero. When I searched images of Dave Grohl there were lots with him looking a little like Jesus with his long hair an' all. So I played on this. The stencil turned out pretty good, though I dont know if I like the purple and I would have liked a little more time to allow the paint to dry properly between layers.

week 2

Due to photo uploading problems I am uploading week 2 now. A bit late, sorry.
In this week I responded to the squid stencil sprayed in week one. Sea creatures work really well because they have lots of scales or segments which allows you to pay lots of attention to detail and the more detailed stencils are, the better they look aesthetically.

Stencil 5 - Adriana

From Zero to Hero
This week i responded to everyone who did film characters for their stencil last week. I decided to stencil Jim Carrey from 'The Mask'.

Stencil 5 - Simon

Yoda... 27/05/2010

This week I responded to the police man, unfortunately he was painted over by the time it was my turn to spray. I thought the police man needed some one to be shooting at and who better than Yoda... Its pretty baseball!

this was my reaction to strawberries, because i get hives from them and when i get hives, i spray paint awesome deep sea diving suits and little girls

week 5

i got violent because i was upset they were not turning out as well as i wanted them to... 5 colours

stencil5 caridee

Stencil 5 -VOGUE magazine

I responded to the Hollywood Actors this week.

Emily - Stencils 4 and 5

i had problems uploading my photo from week 4, but here it is.

'the joker' is the 4 layer, the top layer didnt work out the way i wanted, i accidentally sprayed it the wrong way. oops! but i think it still looks ok.

The 5 layer is the Kombie van (more transport!), which i think is my best yet.. although the silver layer doesn't stand out much, which is a shame.
i think it works because of its simplicity which i've learned are usually the most effective stencils.

stencil 5 napan

this image is relate to the gun
this girl is hitting by that gun.
i used 5colors in this image:
white,green,black,orange, red.

Stencil 5

This week I responded to the Little Mermaid with Ursula. There seems to be a lot of characters from movies and TV so this image ties into that to, but mostly the Little Mermaid image.

Stencil 4 - Nick

BRUCE LEE vs. Scuba Man:
This week i worked with an image of Bruce Lee. I made the stencil A3, which allowed me to retain a little more detail but I also tried a couple of new techniques. To respond to the scuba diver from last week, I put contact over the old design and cut around it so I could paint over it without losing it. I also played with the pink specks up the top. I did this by spraying into the lid then throwing the paint down, instead of spraying directly onto the board.
Im really happy with how this stencil turned out.
robots make my tesla coil

Stencil 3 - Adriana

so i responded to simon's ham..and i guess to nick's pig as well. i made a hamburger. get it?! ham. and. burger. hamburger. ham-bur-ger-lol.

week 3

This stencil looks quite strange, primarily because I accidentally started spraying it upside down. It's actually an architectural drawing of a 1960s building. I responded to the gun stencil not so much in terms of subject matter but in the bold, sharp and angular forms of the gun.

Stencil 3

I responded to the skull by adding the pipe... skulls need to smoke pipes....

week 1

This is my first stencil for the project. I drew this stencil a few years ago from a photo I found in a fashion illustration book. Originally, I screen printed this onto a singlet and thought the image worked really well so I decided to use it again for this project.

week 1/2/3 Dan

3rd one. Responding to the girl image behind. It's a melting silver bulbasaur tattoo.

2nd one. Responding to the girl, a pokeball is placed on her stomach. Thus the pokemon theme begins.

1st one. This is mostly an experiment, the image was way too small.
